Earl Houston Moore, 80, of Columbia, died Monday, October 24, 2011 after a brief fight with cancer. He was born on August 2, 1931, in Camden to Henry Stoney Moore and Eulalia Lewis Moore. Mr. Moore attended school in Camden and Charleston and graduated from Camden High School. He briefly attended Auburn University on a baseball scholarship but chose to serve his country in the United States Air Force where he became a pilot. He later graduated from the University of South Carolina.

Mr. Moore worked for years as a claims investigator for the Department of Vocational Rehabilitation here in South Carolina and later worked for the Department of Labor in Jacksonville, Fla. Upon his retirement, he and his wife returned to South Carolina to be closer to their family.

Mr. Moore was predeceased by his wife of more than 50 years, Frances Richardson Moore; his parents; brothers and sister, James Stoney Moore, Lewis Edward Moore, Joseph Herbert Moore and Leila Elizabeth Moore Marshall. He is survived by his only child, Susan Moore Curran (Brian); grandchildren, Bryson William Curran, Sara Grace Curran, Madelyn Paige Curran; several nieces and nephews.

Memorial service for Mr. Moore will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 27, 2011, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Visitation will be held from 1:30-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
