Lugoff-Elgin American Legion Post 195 recently moved its meetings to the Lugoff Fire Dept on U.S. 1 near the intersection of Ridgeway Road (S.C. 34).

“We would like to put out an invitation to all veterans -- men and women -- to join us at our meetings, on the fourth Thursday of each month from 7 to 7:30 p.m. at the rear of the fire station,” Post 195’s Bill Heil said. “Parking is available behind the fire station and also the hardware parking lot next door.”

Heil said there is a social time meal to meet and greet new members that is “also just a time to relax and enjoy our comrades.”

Each meeting features a speaker of interest to Post 195 members, Heil said.

“We also have a potluck dinner from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m., and the meeting starts at that time,” he said, adding that the post’s Ladies Auxiliary splits off to have its own business meeting.

Heil said some of Post 195’s work includes adopting Lugoff-Elgin High School’s JROTC unit. The post has also adopted a Basic Training Battalion 2/39 at Fort Jackson.

“We enjoy meeting with the troops and help serve their Thanksgiving dinner,” Heil said. “Also, on Veterans Day, we go to the JROTC program at the high school and then to Columbia to march in the big parade with the JROTC. Of course, we help our fellow veterans who need assistance in the Kershaw County area.”

Heil said Post 195 invites all Kershaw County veterans to come pay the post a visit and “meet some friendly people.” For more information, call Heil at 438-8614 or email him at, or call Bill Neubert at 438-9611.
