The Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce will host a toy and food drive during its Business After Hours social in December for chamber members. Chamber Executive Director Liz Horton made the announcement during a brief board meeting Nov. 16.

Horton said the annual toy drive is the only time of year that chamber members are asked to bring anything to Business After Hours gatherings. This year’s social will be held at the Robert Mills Courthouse and is meant to be both a kid- and adult-friendly event.

“We’re asking for our members to bring an unwrapped toy for a boy or a girl that will be donated to the Camden Jaycees stocking fund or a non-perishable food item that we will distribute to Food for the Soul. All of the donations will be distributed here in Kershaw County,” she said. “Last year we had quite a few donations and we want to make it even bigger this year.”

Boxes for donations will be set up in the lobby of the Robert Mills Courthouse for those who would like to donate their items before the Business After Hours social/holiday party Dec. 13.

In other chamber news:

• Several members said they have received positive feedback from other members they have visited as part of the organization’s new Customer Call Program. Under the new initiative, each board member is responsible for visiting chamber members throughout the year to thank them for their membership.

• Chamber board member Kevin Rhodes with the Kershaw County School District updated the board on a business leaders summit focused on early childhood investment he and Horton attended the previous week.

• After adjourning the meeting, board members broke into committees to discuss membership drives, non-dues revenue ideas, business and community improvement, tourism, finance and education.
