The Bethune Womans Club is sponsoring a Bethune Tour of Homes Dec. 4. The tour will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. Tickets, which are $10 per person, may be purchased from members of the Womans Club, from Sandhills Bank in Bethune or, on the day of the event at the Bethune Woman’s Club, 200 King St. Refreshments will be served at the Woman’s Club. The tour includes five homes and four local churches. The home of Cooper and Barbara Segars located at 109 Walton Street was built in 1907 in the Craftsman Style with large windows and a covered porch across the front. It has been restored as closely as possible to the original. The original heart pine flooring has been reclaimed to show the beauty of the wood. The kitchen has been revamped retaining one large cabinet original to the house. This property was at one time a local dairy farm. The house had a dumb waiter on the back porch which allowed the milk to be lowered to the cellar for storage. Also included is the home of Lee Allen and Karen Smith, 303 S. Main St., Bethune. This arts and crafts bungalow was built in the late 19th or early 20th Century for the McLaurin family. The Smiths acquired the home in 1985 and have updated and remodeled while preserving as many of the original features as possible. Other historic homes, log cabins and area churches will be on the tour.
