Dual fire service fees

While checking my county tax assessment, I noticed that I was charged for county fire service when I have been paying the city since 1985. When trying to contact someone as to why, the first time I was put on hold for 20 minutes and had to call back. Someone finally got the needed info on the second call and when I finally got a call back all they could tell me was that I was in the county. I know where I live as I have been there since 1985, but no one could or would give me an answer as to why I was paying for a service that I could not use.

As usual when dealing with some people in government employ, I finally lost my temper.

Is it fair to have to pay for two services when you will only use one? Are people in the city charged for county fire protection? Also, can anyone give me an answer as to why I am charged for something that I do not use? All I want is as answer that is not “You should not be paying for both.” I know that already, but no one seems to be able to tell me why.

Everybody who pays monthly on their power bills for city fire should be contacting the county as to why they are paying for a service that they do not use. We need a better answer than because we live in the county. If that is true, should not the people of Camden and Lugoff also be charged for a service that they do not use?
