Government center decorates for Santa

The Kershaw County Government Center has looked a little more like Santa’s workshop lately as county offices have been decked out with candy canes, garland, and all kinds of other holiday decorations.

County Administrator Vic Carpenter said the decorations would help brighten up the holiday spirits of employees and show a different side of the typical office environment citizens are accustomed to seeing.

“There are a lot of good people here and we can have fun doing this job too,” Carpenter said. “And everyone enjoys the opportunity to get together and decorate.”

He added the idea originated from the success of the decorations displayed at the government center during Halloween.

“After Halloween, when we decorated the doorways and had kids come in trick-or-treating, we wanted to kind of keep that going and with Christmas coming up we decided to have something similar,” Carpenter said. “We’ll also have time for employee’s kids and neighborhood kids to come see Santa.”

He noted that County Clerk Merri Seigler, Assistant County Administrator Alan Trapp, and several other county employees came together and helped decorate and build the Christmas-themed entry way to the county’s administrative offices where kids would be visiting Old Saint Nick.

“Alan built Santa’s stage and went out and got donations from community businesses that were in support of what we’re trying to do so that it didn’t cost anything. He built it on his own time on weekends and at night and that’s now what we have.”
