Needing a win over Blythewood to nail down a spot in this week’s state class AAAA volleyball playoffs, Lugoff-Elgin swept the Bengals, 25-22, 25-16 and 25-16, to nail down third place in Region 4 behind champion Spring Valley and runner-up Dutch Fork.

The Lady Demons will head to Mount Pleasant on Tuesday to take on third-ranked Wando in their post-season opener.

Thursday’s win over Blythewood also marked the final regular season home match for L-E seniors Jordan Parker, Tyler Kirkland, Claire Noel, Christina Bell, Kayla Hughes and Celia Duggan.

Noel had eight kills on the night to lead the way at the net for Susan Morris’ troops. Tyler Kirkland had a game-best 12 assists while Megan Kirkland added 23 digs for the winners.

Playoff scenarios: While Lugoff-Elgin hits the road for its post-season opener, Camden and North Central will be at home for, at least, two matches should they win their first round playoff encounters.

North Central, which went unbeaten in winning the Region 3-A crown, will play host to the fourth-place team from Region 4 tonight in a 6 p.m. start at The Castle in Boonetown. Should the Lady Knights come away with the victory, they will play host to the winner of tonight’s contest between the third-place finisher from Region 1, which will travel to meet St. Joseph’s. The second round is set for 6 p.m. on Wednesday.

Camden, which ran the table in Region 6-AAA, kicks off the post-season on Tuesday when Battery Creek comes to the Dog Pound for a 6 p.m. start. Should Camden win, the Lady Bulldogs will host the winner of the Myrtle Beach at Chapin pairing on Thursday at 6 p.m.

Tennis: The Camden High girls tennis team, the winner of Region 6-AAA, will host the Region 7 runner-up on Thursday in a first round match. The start time is, tentatively, set for 4:30 p.m.
