It's tourney time for county teams

After a break prior to Christmas, Kershaw County’s basketball and wrestling teams will head back to the hardwood and the mat, respectively, for pre-New Year’s Day events this week.
In boy’s basketball, Lugoff-Elgin heads to Chesterfield on Tuesday to begin play in the three-day Farm Bureau Insurance Classic at Chesterfield High School.
Also beginning Tuesday, the Camden girls’ basketball team will make the long trip to Oconee County to participate in the Apple Classic to be held at Walhalla High School. The Lady Bulldogs will take on the tournament hostesses in round one play of the three-day, eight-team tournament.
The North Central girls’ basketball team will make the short trip to Kershaw to play in the Andrew Jackson Christmas Invitational which opens Wednesday and continues Thursday. The Lady Knights meet host Andrew Jackson in Wednesday’s third game at 6 p.m. Chesterfield and Buford round out the girl’s portion of the event.
The 10th annual Ahlstrom Nonwovens/MPCU Carolina Classic boys’ basketball tournament at North Central High School tips off Thursday at The Castle in Boonetown. In addition to the host Knights, Camden, McBee and Cheraw high schools will take part in the two-night event.
The Lugoff-Elgin wrestling team returns to action Friday and Saturday, competing in the Lexington Duals at Lexington High School.
Here is this week’s schedule of games and tournaments:

Tuesday: Lugoff-Elgin in the Farm Bureau Insurance Classic at Chesterfield High School (opponent, time TBA); Camden girls in the Apple Classic at Walhalla High School (vs. Walhalla, 6 p.m.)

Wednesday: Lugoff-Elgin boys in the Farm Bureau Insurance Classic at Chesterfield High School (vs. Chesterfield, 8:30 p.m.); Camden girls in the Apple Classic at Walhalla High School (opponent, time TBA); North Central girls in Andrew Jackson Christmas Invitational (6 p.m. vs. Andrew Jackson)

Thursday: Lugoff-Elgin boys in the Farm Bureau Insurance Classic at Chesterfield High School (opponent, time TBA); Camden girls in the Apple Classic at Walhalla High School (opponent, time TBA); 10th annual Ahlstrom Nonwovens/MPCU Carolina Classic boys’ basketball tournament at North Central High School (6 p.m. – Cheraw vs. Camden; 7:30 p.m. – McBee vs. North Central); North Central girls in Andrew Jackson Christmas Invitational (if win on Wednesday 6 p.m.; if lose on Wednesday, 3 p.m.)
