A 49-year-old Cassatt man on a motorcycle was struck and killed by another vehicle Friday night between Bethune and Kershaw.

Kershaw County Coroner Johnny Fellers reported that Michael Gaskins was pronounced dead at the scene of multiple blunt force trauma. Fellers said the victim was not wearing a helmet.

Gaskins was driving a 2002 Harley Davidson south on S.C. 341 around 10:56 p.m. when a 1995 Mercury Villager van driven by 30-year-old Michelle Anthony of Kershaw County attempted to make a left turn from a private road onto S.C. 341 and pulled out in front of the oncoming motorcycle, according to information from the S.C. Highway Patrol (SCHP).

Anthony, who was wearing a seatbelt, was transported to an area hospital for treatment, the SCHP reported.  Four of the six passengers in the van were also transported for treatment.

The SCHP said Anthony has been charged with felony DUI, child endangerment, child restraint violation, driving under suspension and alcohol violation.

The accident is under investigation by the SCHP and its Multi-disciplinary Accident Investigation Team.
