Decking the Hall’s

Two weeks before Christmas, Mark Mason had an idea. He wanted to feed a hot meal to those in need on Christmas Eve. So he approached the owners of Hall’s Restaurant in Lugoff to ask for help. At first he was told the restaurant wouldn’t be open, but after the owners consulted with the employees of the restaurant, they agreed to come in for the good cause.

“These people really stepped up to the plate to help out,” Rhonda Mason, Mark’s wife, said. “We couldn’t have pulled this off without all the help from Hall’s and their employees.”

Mark owns and operates both the Lugoff Ford and Toyota Dealerships on U.S. 1 and sponsored a hot meal for 428 people at Hall’s on Christmas Eve.

“We wanted to give back to the community in a meaningful way,” Rhonda said. “And we want to thank everyone who made this possible.”

Rhonda said Rev. Ed Stokes helped the family contact churches and schools to get the word out about the meal and employees at both dealerships volunteered to sponsor families by either donating financially or with their time. Plus, the whole Mason family was invested in the project. All the Mason’s children and grandchildren showed up to help.

“It was very successful,” Rhonda said. “A lot of people came together to make this happen. We’re hoping to make this a tradition in upcoming years.”
