The National Society Daughters of the American Colonists goals are to be patriotic, historical and educational in honoring heritage. The national goals are accepting heritage to guide and strengthen the present and accepting our heritage by preparing for the unseen future. These goals are reflected by the State Society by giving scholarships to nursing students.
The South Carolina State Society established a Nursing Scholarship Fund in the early 1980’s, during the administration of Eva Reinhard, State Regent, to help ease the financial burden incurred by nursing students. At this early time, she recognized the potential for a nursing shortage.

Each year the State Society gives two scholarships of $400 to deserving nursing students attending schools within the state.
This year’s recipient is the Applied Technology Education Campus’ Practical Nursing student, Lynn Williams.

Williams has excelled in the classroom and the clinical areas. During the past school year she has volunteered for more than 50 hours of community service in the Camden area. Williams is the daughter of Tommy and Jeanette Anderson of Elgin and is married to Mark Williams. They have three children and reside in Elgin. Williams states, “This was a great honor to receive this scholarship and it will be of great benefit in reaching my career goals.” Future plans include continuing nursing education and working in Kershaw County as a member of the health care team.
