King Haiglar Garden Club to host winter meeting Monday afternoon

The King Haiglar Garden Club will start 2012 with an exciting meeting on Monday, Jan. 9 at 3:30 p.m. Jane Hannon will host the club at 586 Old Mill Lane. A wonderful program on herb cooking will be presented by Tripp Guinn. Betty Sue Webber and Harriett Thomas will co-host with Jane to provide refreshments for all!

The arrangement theme for January is “The Weather Outside is Frightful.” Members are encouraged to bring guests and their favorite horticulture specimens from their gardens. Judges will be Nancy Fisher, Marguerite Glasgow and Judy Smith. Garden maintenance for January will be done by Carol Meckstroth, and Sandra Lease.

January Garden Tips

1. Have a soil sample test done (Clemson Extension Office in Camden).
2. Deadhead Pansies.
3. Fertilize asparagus and strawberries.
4. Prune fruit trees and blueberries.

Try Our January Recipe
8 oz cream cheese (room temp.)
6 Tablespoons chopped sun-dried tomatoes
2 Tablespoons chopped basil leaves
Pinch of salt

Mix cream cheese, tomatoes, and basil in food processor or by hand until smooth. Salt to taste. Serve chilled with baguettes or crackers.
