North Central stepped outside High School League competition on Friday and returned from Bishopville with a pair of wins over host Robert E. Lee Academy.
In the boys’ contest, the Knights pounded their hosts, 72-49. That came on the heels of North Central’s 41-36 victory in the girls’ contest.
Jeremy Fowler continued his run of red-hot recent play by leading Chad Dixon’s charges with 24 points in the Knights’ victory. The junior forward also added 10 rebounds. Brady Brister added 11 points in the guests’ balanced attack.
Josh Jones was next with nine points followed by eight from Clarence Williams and Thomas Flowers seven each from Justin Black. Flowers also led the winners on the glass as he corraled 14 rebounds.
The Knights set the tone for this one as the guests jumped out to a 21-2 lead after one quarter of play before the hosts started getting going from the field to cut the deficit to 41-27 at intermission.
NC carried a 12-point, 48-36 lead, into the fourth quarter.
“We jumped out to a 19-point lead after the first quarter and sort of cruised after that,” Dixon said of his team’s play in their final none-league game. “We didn’t play extremely well after that, but we sill managed to win by 23 points.”
One area which was a concern for Dixon was the fact that his team made just 15 of their 35 free throw attempts on the night.
The Lady Knights won their second game of the season by completing a sweep of Robert E. Lee Academy, taking a five-point victory.
Senior guard Elexis Ross led the way for Mitch Lowder’s squad with 14 points while Morgan Bass was next with 10 for the Lady Knights, who improved to 2-9 on the season heading into Tuesday’s Region 3-A opener at McBee.
Demons fall to Irmo: Led by 19 point from Clemson-bound point guard Jordan Roper, visiting Irmo left Lugoff-Elgin with an 82-34 victory in a Friday night game played at the Demons Den.
The hosts slipped to 1-10 overall and 0-4 in Region 4-4A play with the setback. The visiting Yellow Jackets improved to 13-2 and 4-0 in conference action.
Michael Sumpter led the way for Derek Belton’s squad with 10 points while Bobby Gary was next in line with nine.
