Christmas in Hawaii

Your Opinion column on Jan. 6, 2012, criticized President Obama for traveling to Hawaii for Christmas. As most of us do, he went home for Christmas. His home just happens to be Hawaii.

I heard no such criticism of the previous president’s numerous trips to Texas during his eight years in office. These trips required an entourage of Secret Service Agents and countless staffers. The only difference is the amount of jet fuel required for a trip to Hawaii as compared to a trip to Texas. However, if you measure the number of trips to Texas, the comparison becomes redundant. Moreover, I believe that if the agents and staffers were given a choice between home and Hawaii for Christmas, Hawaii would win hands down.

If we are going to start counting the money, how about starting with a drawdown in Afghanistan and cutting back on nation-building and foreign aid? I could think of several other corporate giveaways. However, I digress. The subject is about Christmas in Hawaii.
