3-D solo exhibit on display at FAC

The Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) welcomes 3-D artist Jen Pepper whose work will be showcased at the FAC beginning with an opening reception today at 6 p.m. in the Bassett Gallery. Join us for the opening reception prior to the production of the “Chicago -- The Musical” which starts at 8 p.m. The reception is sponsored by First Community Bank and includes light hors d’ouevres and a cash bar.

About the Artist

Jen Pepper is a Canadian-born installation artist who has exhibited in solo and group shows in international and national venues since 1990. She splits her time between Sumter and Central New York where she is an associate professor of art at Cazenovia College. She is also the director of the college’s gallery. She holds a BFA from The Maryland Institute College of Art and an MFA from The University of Connecticut at Storrs.

Her work is included in the Flatfiles at Pierogi 2000 in Brooklyn, N.Y. A solo exhibition of her work including video projection with sculptural components was mounted in the Everson Museum of Art, Syracuse, N.Y. and was reviewed in Sculpture magazine in the March 2011 issue. Her work can also be seen in various private collections.

Pepper has been the recipient of granted awards including NEH, NYFA, NYSCA, Astraea Foundation and Saltonstall Foundation for the Arts. She has been an artist in residence to Art Colony Galichnik, Macedonia (2006), Foundation Valparaiso, Spain (2003), The Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, Anam Cara Colony, Ireland (2001), Yaddo (2000), Sculpture Space, (1997), Millay Colony for the Arts (1995). Pepper has been a guest panelist at national Women’s Studies, Social Science and Society for Aesthetics annual conferences presenting papers on feminism and photographic explorations of identity.

The exhibit runs through Feb. 29. The Bassett Gallery is open Monday-Wednesday and Friday 10 a.m. - 5 p.m., and on Thursday from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m. Weekends by appointment only.
