EVRIK GARY (22) HAS MADE an impact on the Francis Marion University basketball program in less than two years playing for the Patriots.

Francis Marion University sophomore guard and former Camden High School standout Evrik Gary was been named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Week for the week of Jan. 9-15.
Gary, a 6-foot-3 Camden native, averaged 24 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 2.5 steals in two games that week.  He tallied 16 points and eight rebounds in an 11-point home win over 20th-ranked University of Montevallo and then registered a career-high 32 points with six rebounds in a conference road win at Flagler College.
For the two games played that week, Gary shot 46.4 percent from the field, including 7-of-12 from three-point territory, and was 15-of-19 at the foul line. He tied a school record by canning all five of his three-point attempts in the win over Flagler.
Gary, a member of Camden High School’s 25-2, 2008-09 AAA state championship squad, currently ranks seventh in the Peach Belt in scoring at 17.3 points per game, is second in free throw percentage at 87.6 percent, and lists 10th in three-point percentage shooting at 40.9 percent. He is also averaging 4.8 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game. Three times this season he has established new career-highs for points in a game.
Including last Monday night’s road win at North Georgia, Gary is averaging 25.5 points and 7.3 rebounds per game over his last four outings.
Gary was a two-time All-State performer at Camden High School under head coach Ron McKie, and in less than two seasons at the collegiate level has amassed 566 points and has shot 88.8 percent from the free throw stripe.
As a redshirt freshman at FMU in 2010-11, Gary was eighth among all NCAA Division II players in free throw shooting percentage with a 90.1 mark.
Gary graduated, with honors, from Camden High School in 2009.
