The Camden based Demon Dogs 14U travel baseball won the Bases Loaded Classic championship with a 3-1 record. The event was played in Myrtle Beach Oct. 16-17

The games were played at Common Park, which is at the old Air Force base. The fields have been renovated and are very nice. Once again, the locals had to play in the 15U bracket.

In Saturday’s first game, the Demon Dogs downed Rock Solid, 6-3.

After being no-hit for four innings, the Demon Dogs got things going in the fifth Cole Irick led off with a single followed by a single by Ross Hough with Irick going to third. Darius Smith hit a sacrifice fly to centerfield with Irick tagging and scoring. Lawson Stokes was hit by a pitch. Carson Morgan hit into a fielder’s choice, forcing Stokes at second. Sam Powers singled as did Will Abbott with Abbott’s hit plating Morgan. Wesley Sheorn singled scoring Powers. Tyler Jordan singled in Abbott.

An inning later, Ross Hough singled and Smith followed with a triple which plated Hough to close the scoring.

Hough was the starting pitcher and threw a complete game, giving up three runs on six hits with nine strikeouts.

The Demon Dogs made it 2-for-2 on Saturday with a 5-2 win over the Shock Wave.

In the first inning, Irick walked as did Hough. Both moved up a base on a wild pitch before Smith hit a sacrifice that scored Irick. Hough then scored on a passed ball. In the third, Irick singled and stole second. A Hough single moved Irick to third. He scored on a balk.

In the sixth, Smith doubled and Stokes walked. Morgan singled plating Smith before Abbott singled to score Stokes.

The locals’ lone loss came on Sunday morning in a 6-4 defeat to the Upstate Raiders.

Christian Flick led things off for the Demon Dogs with a double which was followed by an Irick single. Hough hit into a double play, with Flick scoring. In the third, Flick walked and stole second. Irick then walked. Hough would hit a ball back to the pitcher, who threw the ball into centerfield to allow Flick to score. Irick went to third on a wild pitch and scored on another one.

In the fifth, Hough singled and stole second before scoring on a Stokes single.

Stokes was the starting pitcher and went an inning before giving way to Flick, who worked the next two. Hough came on in the fourth and went two innings.

In a championship game rematch, the Demon Dogs won the title by dropping the Shock Wave, 6-1.

Flick led off the first with a double before Irick followed suit with an RBI double. Irick then smacked the third double of the opening frame to make it 2-0.

In the second, Morgan was hit by a pitch and went to second on a wild pitch. After a Powers walk, Wesley Sheorn hit into a fielder’s choice to the pitcher who fired to third to get Morgan. Jordan would single Powers home. Flick then hit a pop up which the second baseman misplayed, allowing both Sheorn and Jordan to score.

In the sixth, Smith and Stokes both walked and moved up a base on a wild pitch. Smith scored on another wild pitch. Wesley Sheorn had a single that plated Stokes.

Powers pitched a complete game five-hitter, allowing only one run.
