Auditions for Aladdin, a collaboration with the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County (FAC) and Columbia Children’s Theatre will be held Tuesday, Feb. 7 and Thursday, Feb. 9 in the Wood Auditorium at the FAC from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Aladdin will be co-directed by Jerry Stevenson, artistic director of the Columbia Children’s Theatre and Candace Fuller, who was assistant director of last fall’s production of Zombie Prom. All children ages 6 to 18 are encouraged to come and participate. There is no audition fee.

If your child enjoys clowning around, showing off or just plain hamming it up, then this is where they need to be! The Community Youth Productions are always popular and lots of fun for everyone involved. This classic tale of Aladdin is sure to delight audiences of all age groups.

About the play
In a far off land Omar the Magician seeks the magic lamp from the Cave of Wonders. Only Aladdin and his side-kick cat Persia can pass through its doors! From the wondrous lamp the Genie appears granting Aladdin three wishes and a ride upon a magic carpet, flying off to a world of adventure. Aladdin longs for the love of the Princess and fights upon land and sea to win her hand. Fast-paced and full of fun, this heart-warming children’s play will carry you away to a land of enchantment!

Jerry Stevenson, artistic director of Columbia Children’s Theatre says, “Auditions will be ‘pain-free,’ just saying a line or two from the show, maybe a couple of different ways.  We always look for volume first, so it’s always better to be loud than right!”

There is no need to prepare a special audition piece. Children will be asked to read small pieces from the script and will be given special directions by the director to show their ability to listen and understand directions.
Rehearsals will begin in mid-February, with performances March 8-11.  The performances are sponsored by Modern Turf and Target.
