The Friends of the Kershaw County Library Annual Book Sale will be held at the Burndale Shopping Center in the Old Piggly Wiggly building on Jefferson Davis Highway in Camden. The sale will begin on Thursday, March 8, with “Friends’ Night” exclusively for members of Friends of the Library from 6 to 8 p.m. If you are not a member, you can purchase a membership at the door. The sale will be open to the public on Friday, March 9, from noon to 8 p.m.; Saturday, March 10, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Sunday, March 11 from 1 to 5 p.m. “Half-price Sale Day” will be the following Saturday, March 17 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“We have a great selection of books,” said Anthony Hawkesworth, book sale coordinator. “The sale will offer hardbacks, paperbacks, cookbooks, fiction, non-fiction, self-help books, romance novels, westerns, trade paperbacks, and children’s books. There are also rare and out of print books for sale as well as videos and DVDs.”

According to Hawkesworth, the books are all priced reasonably because the goal is to raise as much money as possible for the Library. Children’s books begin at 25 cents and a bag of paperbacks can be purchased for $7.

“The book sale is the Friends only fund raiser and all of the proceeds are returned to the library to meet their needs whatever they may be,” Bob Vaughan, President of Friends explained. “In this time of budget cuts the library needs our help more than ever to buy books and materials and fund programs.”

Vaughan points out that beyond just books, the library plays another important role in Kershaw County by providing Internet access to those who can’t afford to have a computer in their home. The Library also has DVDs, audio books, and sponsor programs for all citizens of Kershaw County.

Friends collects donations of books year round and stores them until the next sale. All of the books are in good condition with some new, never been read books. If you have a donation, you can drop it off anytime at the library.
