A man who robbed First Palmetto Savings Bank’s Lugoff branch at gunpoint around 3:30 p.m. Wednesday remained at large Thursday afternoon. According to the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO), the man walked into the bank, pulled out a silver pistol and demanded the teller give him all her loose bills. KCSO Chief Deputy Marvin Brown described the suspect as a “white male, tall, slender with a grubby beard wearing a white shirt and blue jeans” and is believed to be 25 to 30 years old. In a KCSO incident report, a bank teller said the man run across the street toward the Sonic Drive-In and into a dirt parking lot where she lost sight of him. Deputies said in the report they believe the suspect may have had a getaway car placed behind the old Piggly Wiggly. Once deputies arrived on the scene a perimeter was placed around the area. Bloodhounds were also called in to track the path described by the eye witness. The dog team lost the trail, but did find marks where a car turned around behind the business and a fresh cigarette butt. An undetermined amount of money was stolen; no injuries were reported. The KCSO is working with the FBI on the case.
