State government is ‘atrocious’

I applaud S.C. Sens. Joel Lourie and Vincent Sheheen for having the wherewithal to speak out about our South Carolina government. It is atrocious. Not one layer of government knows what the other layer is doing and doesn’t seem to care as long as they receive their paycheck!

To say they are on autopilot is putting it mildly. The coordination of the departments of our government is nonexistent and this is even worse since this is the computer age.

First and foremost, as the senators noted, create an outside inspector general (outside of the range of the South Carolina political influence).

Second, call your legislators to heel about relevant programs and efficient programs so as to cut out the waste that exists now.

Third, of course, we need budgets. But not just that include horse shows and plant shows and art shows; although all of these are important, but incorporate these things with the schools and create a win-win proposition. We have some very bright children in high and junior high who would be a boon to government if they were allowed to spend a day in one of government’s departments and be allowed to bounce off some of their ideas of how to “cut the fat.”

As the two senators said: “Now is our opportunity to put in place a better and saner system of government.” For our children’s sake, let us not fail!
