Miss Lal, Mr. Thomas wed

Miss Vanessa Lal of San Jose California and Mr. Cruz Costelle Thomas of Camden were united in marriage May 22, 2010 at the Church of The Chimes in San Jose California. Pastor Mark Averill officiated at the 2:30 p.m. ceremony.

The bride, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Stan Lal of San Jose, California, is the granddaughter of Mrs. Sumintra Lal of San Jose, California. Miss Lal is a graduate of Valley Christian High School, San Jose, Ca. in 2005. She continued her education at San Jose State University, graduating December 2009 with her Bachelor of Arts and Liberal Studies in preparation for teaching elementary through high school education. She was employed at Valley Christian High School as the Cheerleading Advisor and Coach prior to her marriage.

The bridegroom is the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Willie James Thomas. He graduated from Camden High School in 2005 and moved to Gaffney to attend Limestone University. Mr. Thomas graduated May 2010 with a Bachelor Degree in Criminal Justice. He is employed by Boys and Girls Club of America as a Unit Director of the Teen Center in Gaffney.

Pianists for the wedding were Mr. Aaron Moon and Ms. Krysten Van Cleaze also accompanied by a cello and violinist.

Vocalists were Mr. Ray Hyde and Ms. Lisbeth Villavicencio. Ray soloed “How Great Is Our God” prior to the service and “Listen To Our Hearts.” Lisbeth soloed “Lead Us To The Cross” during communion. As a duet Ray and Lizbeth sang “The Prayer”. The songs were selected by the bride and groom.

The bride, given in marriage by both her parents, Stan and Lisa Lal, wore a formal white Casablanca Cathedral Gown, covered with beading and Chantilly Lace. Her three layer elegant veil complemented her wedding attire. The flowers carried by bride were peonies, roses, tulips and hydrangeas with some crystals throughout the stunning bouquet.

The maid of honor was Miss Lizbeth Villavicencio of San Jose, California.

The bridesmaids were Miss Heidi Hanson of San Jose, California; Mrs. Emily Branch of Morgan Hill, California; Miss Kori Okuda of San Jose, California; Miss Amy Syres of Tucson, Arizona; Miss Karla Portale of San Jose, California; Miss Ashley Walton of San Francisco, California; and Miss Julia Hela of San Jose, California.

The best man was Mr. Kenneth Jones of Camden.

The ushers were Mr. Kevin Dickens of Hollister, California, uncle of the bride; Mr. Ryan Lal of Irvine, California, bride’s brother; and Mr. Scott Branch of Morgan Hill, California, friend of the bride and groom.

The groomsmen were Mr. Anthony Thomas of Harlem, N.Y.; Mr. Wesley Terrill of Gaffney, S.C.; Mr. Pierre Salmon of Gaffney, S.C.; Mr. Ray Hyde of San Jose, California; Mr. Ryan Lal of Irvine, California; Mr. Scott Branch of Morgan Hill, California; and Mr. Julian Espinoza of Gaffney, South Carolina.

A reception followed at Silver Creek Valley Country Club in San Jose where a dinner/dance reception was held for 200 guests. Mr. Stan Lal, father of the bride, gave a loving speech about his daughter. A warm welcome was addressed to the family and friends that had traveled for this special day.

A celebration was held at the Lal’s home Sunday, May 23, 2010 serving brunch to family, friends and the wedding party. Mr. Lal’s family traveled from Sydney Australia, Suva, Fiji Island to attend the wedding celebration. The groom’s aunt and cousin traveled from Camden.

Mr. and Mrs. Cruz Thomas departed on Monday, May 24, 2010 for a week at Marriott’s Ko Olina Beach Resort on Oahu, Hawaii.

The couple is now living in Duncan, South Carolina.
