If you've been sniffling and sneezing and wondering when the giant clouds of yellow pollen will finally subside, take heart: the worst of it is over, and those yellow cars you see driving around Kershaw County will soon be back to their natural colors. That will no doubt be a relief to many allergy sufferers here, and it will mean that everyone can finally celebrate, without reservation, the glory that is spring in South Carolina.

We'll admit that the mild winter has taken a bit of the angst out of waiting for an early spring. There have been few nights below freezing this winter, and days in the 60s and even 70s have been common since winter officially arrived Dec. 21. But still, there's nothing like spring, with the gorgeous flowers and the shrubs and blooming trees and the insatiable desire to be outside … anywhere outside. And now that the equinox has passed, spring is official.

Spring is often hailed -- rightfully so -- as a period of rebirth. Just as it is with plant life, so it is with humans. There's something about the season that is so invigorating, so inviting, that people just feel better than they do any other time of year. Of course, here in Kershaw County, spring also is heralded by the Carolina Cup steeplechase. Come to think of it, there are too many reasons to like spring than we have space to list here. We can offer just a simple piece of advice: enjoy.
