A Camden man died following a single-car crash Wednesday afternoon on Bishopville Highway (S.C. 34) several miles east of Camden.

Kershaw County Coroner Johnny Fellers identified the man as 55-year-old Elisha Grant.

“He died of blunt force trauma from being ejected out of the automobile,” Fellers said. “He was heading toward Camden and lost control of the vehicle. He hit a couple of trees.”

Fellers said the accident occurred at 2:25 p.m.

S.C. Highway Patrol Senior Trooper Brent Kelly said Grant was driving a 1992 Honda when he ran off the right side of the road, struck an embankment and trees, and was ejected from the car. He said Grant was not wearing a seatbelt and died at the scene.

Fellers said he is awaiting results of toxicology screens.
