Doing its damage early, McBee downed host North Central, 5-1, in a game shortened after five innings due to lightning.
The game left both teams tied with Lewisville with 3-2 records after the first go ‘round in Region 3-A play.
NC head coach Robbie Cash admitted that his team’s 7-2 win over Lewisville on Tuesday night may have factored into the Knights’ performance on Friday.
“We came out flat after the Lewisville game,” Cash said. “That was the first time we’ve beaten Lewisville in a couple years.”
McBee scored three times in the first inning before adding solo runs in the second and third frames to jump out to a 5-0 lead. NC scored its lone run of the game in the bottom of the third as Grayson King doubled home Tyler Bowers.
The bottom line in this contest, though, was the Knights left nine runners on base --- including seven in scoring position --- in just five frames. That, Cash said, was unacceptable.
“You just can’t leave nine men on base, especially in a five inning game,” he said. “But we just didn’t play well. McBee just played better than we did.”
King, who collected two of North Central’s seven hits, suffered the mound loss for the Knights. He only allowed three Panther hits while recording five strikeouts as he fell to 3-2 on the season.
