At 2:00 AM next Sunday we get Standard Time back. Daylight Savings Time is just fine for those who like to get up an hour earlier. But, as for me -- I like the extra hour. It’s a bit like hitting myself on the head because it feels so good when I stop.

What do the dairy farmers do when the clocks are turned back? I guess they do like the cows do. Cows and chickens and pigs follow their own schedule. They tell time by the sun. They are ready to eat when the sun comes up.

I read that the plan was to return to Standard Time after Halloween. This was so that the children can have more light for “trick or treat”. It was a great plan, made by adults who have forgotten how children think. One of the beauties of Halloween is walking around the neighborhood in the dark.  Who wants to “be a spook” in broad daylight!

Congress can’t set the time for sunset or sunrise. On November 7, the sun will rise at 6:49 and set at 5:26. We can make a law about that, but the sun will not pay any more attention than the cows do!

Word List: Standard,  Halloween,  neighborhood,  attention.
