A missing Kershaw County woman was found alive Monday in a remote location of the Blue Ridge Parkway’s Bullhead Mountain Overlook in North Carolina.

Crystal Lynn Ham, a 2003 North Central High School graduate, was missing for nearly a week before being found Monday night.

Pastor Craig Thompson, of Malvern Hill Baptist Church which the Ham family attends, said Ham was found early evening Monday. A group of rescuers and paramedics stayed with Ham through the night Monday, and she was airlifted early Tuesday to a local hospital.

Thompson, who was with the Ham family Monday night, said the family wanted to be sure that “God receives all the glory” for the rescue. He said they were “ecstatic.”

“It was unlike anything I’ve ever experienced,” Thompson said Tuesday morning, speaking on his cell phone while on the way with Ham’s family to a North Carolina hospital where she was recovering.

Ham, 25, had last been seen the morning of Oct. 26 by her father in Kershaw County.

Her vehicle was found parked at the Bullhead Mountain Overlook, but local authorities said it was a popular spot for people to leave their cars while hiking, so it wasn’t looked into for several days.

Ham went to the mountains to “get away from everything for a little while” and “spend some time in prayer,” said Thompson. He described her as a “great, Godly young woman.”

A press release from the U.S. National Park Service stated a full-scale search went underway last Saturday with multiple agencies assisting, including local volunteer fire departments and search and rescue quads

The National Park Service was commanding the search, and the Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) was leading the investigation.

Thompson wanted to thank the state park service, the National Park Service and the KCSO, specifically Deputy Jason Jordan who lead the investigation.
