Writer says editorial an inaccurate personal attack

The Chronicle attacked me personally in no uncertain terms for using vituperative, derogatory and insulting language to attack members of the City Council and City Manager Kevin Bronson.

There is only one problem with that assertion: it is patently, absolutely false. I challenge the Chronicle to find one word in your newspaper, other than a comment about the “boy mayor” many months ago and for which you duly chastised me, to support that charge. Further, I have never, not once, made a statement before the City Council. It seems that my silence has been converted in some contorted optic to state a convenient non-truth. I “spoke” with a lawsuit to challenge the City’s use of the hospitality tax to finance the recreation complex,

The truth is I have worked behind the scenes to forge a settlement between Camden Committee for Responsible Government and the City, a settlement that would limit the use of the hospitality tax for construction of a complex, but one not so grand.

Your editorial is sloppy in its inaccuracy and disgraceful in its demagoguery. It would appear that you have opened the first salvo of the election campaign by making my wife and me an issue rather than the conduct of city government.

An apology is in order.
