Sonny Cogdell

Funeral services to celebrate the life of E. A. “Sonny” Cogdell, Jr., 68, of Camden will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, April 26, 2012 at Bethel Worship Center with burial with military rites to follow in Wateree Baptist Church Cemetery. Pastor Casey Mills will officiate. The family will receive friends, Wednesday, April 25, 2012 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Mr. Cogdell’s memories to Bethel Worship Center, P.O. Box 581, Camden, SC 29021.

Mr. Cogdell died Tuesday, April 24, 2012. Born in Gastonia, NC, he was the son of the late Ernest Arthur Cogdell, Sr. and Virgie C. Cogdell. He was a US Navy veteran having served in Vietnam. Mr. Codgell was employed by Valley Proteins, was a member of Bethel Worship Center where he served as head usher and small group leader for golf ministry. He was an avid golfer and gamecock fan.

Surviving are his wife, Catherine “Kathy” Kirby Cogdell; daughters, Christy C. Vinson (Rev. Brad) of Camden, Angie C. Pierce (Robbie) of Camden, Lisa C. Bradshaw (Richard) of Belmont, NC; sons, Rev. Ernest A. Cogdell III (Jodie) of York, SC and Ricky T. Cogdell of Gastonia, NC; grandchildren, Emma Renee Vinson, Michael Cogdell, Tori, Kimee and Hope Pierce, C.J. Hunter, Rick and Brian Bradshaw, Ernest A. Cogdell, IV, Abigail E. and Alana G. Cogdell, Dewayne L. Shelby, Ashleigh, Kyle and Kayleigh Wallace; great-grandchildren, Makayla Bradshaw, Bentley and Madden Shelby; brother Terry Cogdell of Gastonia, NC. He was predeceased by sisters, Sylvia Gaddis and Peggy Brummet.
