James "Elmo" Davis Sr.

Mr. James "Elmo" Davis, Sr. was born in Kershaw County on September 7, 1938, to the late Willie and Dorothy Davis. God called him home from labor to reward on Wednesday, May 2, 2012.

Elmo grew up in the St. Matthew Community and attended Kershaw County Schools. He received his religious grounding at St. Matthew United Methodist Church. Elmo was active in his church and served faithfully. He served on various committees including, Chairman of the St. Matthew United Methodist Men and the Adult Choir.

Elmo was employed for many years at Kershaw County Memorial Hospital and DuPont ARA Food Service. He later retired from the SC Department of Transportation after many years. After his retirement he went to work for Kershaw County Environmental Services until he became ill.

Elmo loved quartet music and singing. He was the manager and a member of the Gospel Solo Tones. Elmo was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

Left to cherish his fond memory are his loving wife, Easter Davis; four sons, Willie Edward (Denise) Davis, James E. (Ida) Davis, Jr., Robert (Bobby) Davis, and Henry Jerome (Gretchen) Davis; 9 grandchildren, Delia and Kal Davis, Bryant and Bradwin Salmond, Ashley, LaQuasha, and Latrell Jefferson and Devin and Dasha Davis, a nephew & niece raised in the home, Chico (Kitty) Carter and Jermanda (Floyd) Barkley and a step sister, Gladys Cabbagestalk.

Haile's Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
