Ben Cook, the head professional at the Daniel Island Tennis Center and a Kershaw native, is bringing a pro tennis match to the Kershaw Country Club on Sunday afternoon, May 13.
The event is free and open to the public.
The event will open with a children’s tennis clinic which will begin at 4:30 p.m. At 5 p.m., the exhibition tennis match featuring Cook and three fellow professionals will be played.
Cook is the former top-ranked junior player in the state and was ranked among the top 45 junior players in the country. He then signed with the University of South Carolina, playing for the Gamecocks from 1991 through 1995. USC made two NCAA appearances during that time.
Joining Cook will be former USC player Thomas Eklund.  A native of Sweden, Eklund played first singles for the Gamecocks in 2005 and 2006 in which he earned All-SEC honors. He was ranked as high as number 15 in the NCAA. He also recorded several wins over fellow countryman and 2010 French open finalist, Robin Soderling, when the pair played junior tennis tournaments in Sweden.
Another former Gamecock and All-American, Seth Rose, will be playing in the doubles event along with Dusan Medan, the head tennis professional at Topspin Racquet Club in Lexington and a former college player at Marquette University.
In addition to the clinic and the match there will be concessions available for purchase.
At the end of the match, fans will have the chance to pay $1 for three chances to return the serve from one of the professionals.
