Funeral service with full Masonic Rites for Wallace Gordon Wright, 82, of Columbia, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 16, 2012, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Northeast Chapel, 4219 Hard Scrabble Road, with entombment in the mausoleum at Memorial Gardens of Columbia. Active pallbearers will be deputies with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department and honorary pallbearers will be members of the Ft. Jackson Masonic Lodge 374 AFM. The family received friends from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2012, at the funeral home.

Mr. Wright died Saturday, May 12, 2012, after a battle with cancer. Born December 10, 1929, in Mission Texas, he was a son of the late George Dewey and Dorothy Mae Hacker Wright. He worked for Kaiser Aluminum in New Orleans before being drafted into the U.S. Army. He served for over five years, serving 18 months in Korea. In 1959, he began a 25 year career in office technology, retiring as Regional Electronics Service Manager. He retired again after holding various positions during 20 years with S.C. Criminal Justice Academy in Columbia.

A member of Fort Jackson Masonic Lodge 374 AFM since 1969, Mr. Wright served as Worshipful Master in 1976, was appointed Grand Pursuivant in 1988 and served as Secretary for 20 years. He was honored to be a life member and to have the Masonic Lodge dining hall named "Wallace Wright Dining Hall." In addition, he joined the Fort Jackson Chapter Order of the Eastern Star #253 in 1969, where he and his wife, Genie, served as Worthy Matron and Worthy Patron in 1975-76. He served as President of the Greater Woodfield Community Association for the past six years and published monthly newsletters for the past eight years. He recently completed a course in conjunction with the Richland County Sheriff’s Department Citizens Academy and was an active volunteer with Citizens Advisory Group, Region 2. He was a life member of VFW Post 641. His hobbies included fishing, water skiing and gardening.

Surviving are his wife, Genie Hood Wright; daughters, Dorothy Jewel Stafford of Swansea, Genie Wright Frierson (Donald) of Athens, Tenn.; sons, Gordon Lee Wright (Katherine) of Columbia and James Dewey Wright of Columbia; grandchildren, Michelle Lee Hachten of Jonesborough, Tenn., Jennifer Lee Fraser (Devon Stansfield) of Columbia, Glen Alan Wright (Lauren) of Columbia, Gordon Jamison Wright of Columbia, Daniel Andrew Wright of Columbia, Brian Thomas Wright (Misty Jones-Wright) of Greenville, James Dewey Wright Jr. (Kathryn) of Columbia, Sara Elizabeth Wright of Summerville, James David Robbins III of Columbia, Kevin Dane Robbins of Swansea; great-grandchildren, Anna Wallace Wright of Columbia, James Michael Robbins of Blythewood. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by two brothers, William Leroy Wright and Kenneth Olen Wright.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Ft. Jackson Masonic Lodge 374 AFM, 4735 Jackson Blvd., Columbia, SC 29209 or Fort Jackson Chapter 253, c/o Judy Krummich, 9303 Windsor Lake Blvd., Columbia, SC 29223.
