Camden High School student and current South Carolina High School Rodeo Queen Jess Bowers will relinquish her crown during this weekend’s South Carolina Championship High School Rodeo.
The three-day event rolls into Clemson on Thursday.
Bowers will compete for a chance to win college scholarships, prizes and a chance to attend the National High School Finals Rodeo in Rock Springs, Wyo. The National High School Finals Rodeo is the world’s largest rodeo. Contestants from across the country as well as Australia and Canada will travel to Wyoming in July to compete against each other.
The Junior High Division will also compete this weekend as well. Students in grades sixth through eighth grade will compete for their chance to go to Gallup, New Mexico. The junior contestants will rodeo at 1 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
As a special attraction at this year’s rodeo, the venue will house many celebrities from across the state. On Friday, rodeo spectators will have the opportunity to meet Pro Bass Fisherman Davy Hite. Davy has career earnings of more than $2 million on tour. Danny Ford, the head coach of Clemson’s 1981 national championship football team, will make an appearance as well.
On Saturday, “Gator Wrangler” Kristi Broussard, a star from History Channel’s Swamp People, will make an appearance to sign autographs and greet the crowd. Broussard is a true Cajun who was born and bred on the bayou. Broussard is in her first season on the show and is working alongside of her close friend Liz!
The rodeo begins at 8 p.m. all three nights. Tickets can be purchased at the box office at T. Ed. Garrison Arena beginning at 6 p.m. each night.
