Youth sports camps ready for summer runs

With the school year coming to a close, it is time for summer sports camps in Kershaw County.
Here is a listing of the camps, by starting date:
Visions Basketball Camp: Directed by former Camden High and Jacksonville University basketball standout Harvin Council, the annual Visions Basketball Camp is designed for boys and girls basketball players of all skill levels. Assisting Council throughout the week will be college and high school basketball players form in and around the region. Stations will be set up to work on individual skills while free throw shooting contests, three-on-three games, five-on-five games and skills competitions will also be part of the curriculum at this annual camp.
Date: June 4-8 Monday through Friday; Location: Leslie M. Stover Middle School Gym; Ages: 6 - 17 (beginner - advanced); Cost: $50; Hours: 9 a.m. - noon; Registration/contact: Harvin Council at (803) 468-7596
Lugoff-Elgin Baseball Camp: This camp is held at the Lugoff-Elgin High School and is available for youth ages 8 through 13. Beginners through advanced players are welcome. Learn the fundamentals or improve your skills. Instructing the camp will be L-E head coach Randy Stokes, with his players assisting.
Dates: June 4-6; Location: Optimist Field; Ages:7 - 13; Cost: $40; Hours: 9 a.m. - noon; Pre-registration: Required by May 30 through the Kershaw County Recreation Department at 425-6009.
North Central All Sport Youth Camp: Members of the North Central High School athletic department will host a three-day camp which will provide instruction in football, baseball, tennis, track, softball, basketball, volleyball and wrestling.
Date: June 4-6; Location: North Central High School; Ages: Grades 1 through 5; Cost: $30 (lunch included); Hours: 9:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.; Registration/contact: Coach Louis Clyburn (803-572-2093); Youngsters may also register the morning of June 4 beginning at 8:30 a.m.
KCRD Soccer Camp: This camp is open for boys and girls ages 6-14. Players will be grouped by age, size, and ability. Daily training sessions will include individual ball handling skills, partner skills, developmental games and much more. This fun-filled week is the perfect way to introduce players to the game of soccer and to challenge advanced players to improve their game. Players must wear shin guards and bring a water bottle and soccer ball. The instructor is Peter Wittig, varsity boy’s soccer coach at Blythewood High School.
Dates: June 4-8 and Aug. 6-10; Location: Kershaw West complex,  Highway 1, Lugoff; Ages: boys and girls 6-14; Hours: 9 a.m. - noon; Cost: $65 (includes T-shirt); Pre-registration:  Required by May 30 or Aug. 1 through the KCRD at 425-6009.   
Camden High Cheerleading Camp: The Camden High School Varsity and Junior Varsity Cheerleaders and coach will run the camp. They will demonstrate and teach cheers, chants, jumps and more.
Dates: June 5 - 7; Location: CHS gym; Ages: 5 - 12; Cost: $45 (includes T-shirt); Hours: 9 a.m.- noon: Pre-registration required by May 30 through the KCRD at 425-6009.   
Camden Little Bulldog Baseball Camp: Learn the fundamentals of baseball or improve your skills in this camp. Daily training sessions will include hitting, base running, sliding and all aspects of defense. Campers will get one-on-one instruction. CHS coach Denny Beckley and his players will be instructing. Dates: June 11 - 15 
Location: American Legion Park; Ages: boys and girls 7-13; Cost: $60 ($10 reduction for two or more children from the same family); Hours: 8 a.m.- noon; Pre-registration:  Required by June 6 through the KCRD at 425-6009.
Camden High School Volleyball Camp: Open to beginners through intermediate players. Beginners will focus on skill development and work toward game play. Intermediate players will refine their skills and work on more advanced team concepts. Players will be grouped by skill level. Instructing the camp will be CHS Paige Wilson and her players.
Date: June 11-15; Location: CHS; Ages: 8 & up; Cost: $60 (includes T-shirt) $5 reduction for each additional child; Hours: 9  a.m. - noon; Pre-registration: Required by June 6 through the KCRD at 425-6009.
Lugoff-Elgin Softball Camp: For beginner through advanced players are welcome. Daily sessions will include offensive play, base running and hitting.  Instructing the camp will be L-E High School softball coach James Marlow and coaches with team players.
Dates: June 11-13; Location: L-E softball field: Hours:  9 a.m. -11:30 a.m. (elementary level camp for ages 8-11); Cost: $40; Middle Level Camp from 6:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. for girls age 12- rising ninth graders; Cost $50
Pre-registration:  Required by June 6 through the KCRD at 425-6009.   
Lugoff-Elgin Volleyball Camp: Come to learn or improve your skills. Players will be grouped by skill level. Beginners through advanced players are welcome. Instructing the camp will be L-E head coach Jessica Mullins and her players.
Dates: June 18 - 22; Location: L-E Gym; Ages: 9-14; Cost: $60 (includes T-shirt) $5 reduction for each additional child; Hours: 9 a.m. - noon; Pre-registration:  Required by June 13 through the KCRD at 425-6009.
Junior Golf Camp: Learn the fundamentals of golf or improve your skills in this camp. Matt McCarley, PGA professional, will instruct boys and girls ages 7 - 17. Beginners through advance golfers are welcome.
Dates: June 18-21 and July 9-12; Location: Camden Country Club; Ages: 7-17; Hours:  8 a.m. -10 a.m.; Cost: $85 per camper/per session; Pre-registration:  Required by June 13 or July 4 through the KCRD at 425-6009.   
Vonnie Holliday Little Bulldog Football Camp:  Learn the fundamentals of football and improve your skills in this camp. Daily training sessions will include all aspects of defense and offense. Instructing the camp will be the Camden High football staff and players. No football equipment needed. Campers are asked to wear cleats and bring a water bottle. The camp is sponsored by Vonnie Holliday, a former Camden High School standout, who is now playing in the NFL.
Dates: June 25-29; Location: Camden High School; Cost: $35; Ages: 7-14; Hours: 8 a.m. - noon
Pre-registration: Required by June 20 through the KCRD at 425-6009.
Runnin’ Dogs Basketball Camp: This camp is offered for boys and girls ages 5-14 and will concentrate on teaching young players the fundamentals of basketball and working on skills and team play. There will also be five-on-five and three-on-three games and awards for free throw, league champ, sportsmanship and more. There will be eight-foot goals for younger players. The camp is instructed by Camden High boys’ head coach Ron McKie, girls’ head coach Natalie Jeffcoat, their coaching staffs and high school players.
Dates: July 9 -13; Location: CHS gym; Ages: boys and girls 5-14; Hours: 9 a.m. - noon; Cost: $60; Pre-registration Required by July 4 through the KCRD at 425-6009.   
Lugoff-Elgin boy’s basketball camp: The primary focus will be to teach young players basic basketball skills and fundamentals. Camp participants will also learn the concept of team play. There will be some scrimmage games and awards for free throw shooting, hustling, sportsmanship and more. There will be eight-foot goals for younger players. The camp is instructed by L-E head coach Derek Belton and varsity team members.
Dates: July 9-12; Location: L-E Wellness Center; Ages: 6-13; Hours: 8:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.; Cost: $60 per camper (includes T-shirt); Pre-registration: Required by July 4 through the KCRD at 425-6009.   
Camden High Softball Camp: Learn the fundamental skills of fast pitch softball or improve your skills in the camp. Daily sessions will include defensive play, base running and hitting. Instructing the camp will be CHS softball coaches, Lynn Looney and Chris Harris, with local players assisting.
Dates: July 16 -20; Location: CHS Softball Field; Ages: 7-14; Cost: $60 ($5 reduction for each additional child); Hours: 9 a.m. - noon; Pre-registration: Required by July 13 through the KCRD at 425-6009.   
Lugoff-Elgin Girls’ Basketball Camp: The primary focus of this camp will be to teach young players basic basketball skills and fundamentals. Participants will also learn the concept of team play. There will be some scrimmage games and awards for free throw shooting, hustling, sportsmanship and more.  There will be eight-foot goals for younger players.  The camp is instructed by L-Evarsity girls head coach, Von Duncan, assistant coach, Tressa Dixon and varsity team members.
Dates:  July 23-26; Location: L-E Wellness Center; Ages: 5-14; Hours:  9 a.m. - noon; Cost:  $60 per camper (includes T-shirt); Pre-registration: Required by July 18 through the KCRD at 425-6009.   
Lugoff-Elgin Football Fundamental Camp:  This one-day camp is a non-contact drill camp. No equipment is needed. Learn the fundamentals of football including ball handling, catching, passing and proper stances. Instructing the camp will be L-E head coach Scott Jones, his staff and players. Campers need to bring cleats or tennis shoes.
Date:  Saturday, Aug. 18; Location: L-E Wellness Center; Cost:  $20 per camper (includes T-shirt); Ages:  8-12; Hours:  8:30 a.m.-noon; Pre-registration:  Required by August 15 through the KCRDat 425-6009.
