Each year at the Montessori School of Camden, students celebrate the end of academics with a “Bridging Ceremony,” held in the Baxley Gazebo.

The main focus of the event is the group of Upper Elementary graduates of the school. This year, Ned Adams (MSC 2003-2012), Tyler Gray (2004-2012), William McKelvey (MSC 2009-2012) and Mason Studer (MSC 2001-2012) were honored and wished much success in their futures.

The event began with the Upper Elementary students reciting inspirational poetry. After recounting the many honors and exploits of the Upper Elementary students, Headmaster Dr. John Moncure called Anna Heaton to the gazebo where she was welcomed to the Upper Elementary class. Then the remainder of the Lower Elementary class entered the gazebo, and Dr. Moncure called up Jacob Bostic, Averee Hickmon and Asia Wright, who will be joining that class next year. The ceremony continued with the Primary (ages 3-6) teachers welcoming the toddlers who will move next year as well, followed by the toddler teachers welcoming the rising infants. Any child may be a bit nervous about changing classes the following year; one of the purposes of the ceremony is to show the children how welcoming their future classmates -- who have been in the class already for one or two years -- will be.

This year Jin Nettles joined Ned Adams, Tyler Gray, J.D. Heaton and Mason Studer in being named a Duke University TIP scholar. This prestigious recognition is given to students who score in the top 5 percent of a nationally-normed test.
