Bethune council met in October

The Bethune Town Council met Oct. 14 at Bethune Town Hall.

Councilman Jimmy Steen made a motion to approve the minutes and financial statements as presented. This motion was seconded by Councilwoman Gayle Beasley and carried unanimously.

KershawHealth Board of Trustees Chairman Don Witham met with council to enlist its help in contacting people and encouraging them to vote in favor of the 1 percent sales tax for capital projects in November. Witham stated that he would be glad to meet with any individual or group if interested to discuss the proposed tax and answer any questions they might have in regard to the tax.

The 1 percent capital project sales tax referendum failed during the Nov. 2 general election.

In other business, Mayor Carlisle Davis proclaimed the month of October as Alpha Delta Kappa month in Bethune in honor of members who reside in Bethune and Kershaw County.
