The first “True Dog and Pony Show” was held at the South Carolina Equine Park on Saturday, June 2. The weather was perfect and everywhere you looked there was an adorable dog or an amazing horse. The food was delicious, many cool vendors participated and a good time was had by all who came out to support the building and renovation of the new Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter.

The event, which was hosted by the Kershaw County Humane Society, was a huge success! The combined equine and canine demonstrations provided continued fast paced entertainment for the whole family.

The K9’s in Flight were a big crowd pleaser with their frisby catching acrobatics, demonstrating how shelter dogs can be rehabilitated and trained to lead useful lives. The combined driving pony, with owner Bonnie Fahrner handling the reins, had the crowd urging her on to go faster and make the tight turns required of her obstacle course.

The De Los Mejores Paso Finos put on a performance, demonstrating their unique versatility, wowing the audience with their high stepping energy. Paso owner, Staige DeBenedetti did double duty throughout the day while both riding her horse in an event and also acting as event hostess.

The organizing committee would like to send out a heart felt thanks to all of the sponsors and volunteers who made this event possible. To all the vendors and participants, we extend our deepest thanks for your enthusiastic response in helping us with this huge undertaking. We could not have done this without all of your generous participation. A big thank you goes out all of the citizens of out community who came out and brought your families. We hope that you enjoyed the evening as much as we did. Plans are in the works to make this an annual event. We hope to see you all back in 2013 for a day of dogs, horses, and fun, so that we can continue to provide support for the Walter M.Crowe Animal Shelter and all the animals in their care.
