Graduates from one of 2011’s KCSO Stars Camp are pictured with KCSO officials. Registration is being taken for another series of camps, which will be held in July.

The Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) is once again offering its Stars Camp, geared toward middle school-aged students. The camps will be offered at all three county middle schools as follows:

Camden Middle School -- July 9-13

North Central Middle School -- July 16-20

Lugoff-Elgin Middle School -- July 23-27

All camps will run Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. each day.

“Since most of the other camps in the area will be finished by July and most kids in this age group will become, this will give those kids something productive to do with their day,” KCSO officials said.

The cost is $30 per child.

The KCSO said it is trying to obtain scholarships for those who are in need of financial help and said the office has received a limited amount of scholarship funding to date.

Registration forms are available at the sheriff’s office and at each of the three middle schools; please ask the school resource officer about the forms.

The topics will be very relevant to kids ages 11 to 14. Some of the information covered in camp include Internet safety, bullying, gangs, basic first aid, fire prevention, team building and a demonstration by the KCSO K-9 team. Campers also learn how to go about investigating and successfully solving a crime. The KCSO said it also wants campers to be able to give back to the community, so it will be working on a community project throughout the week.

Breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided.

Campers will receive a T-shirt, cinch bag, water bottle and a wealth of knowledge.
