Sandhills Heights Baptist Church youth is reaching out to the public in a unique way.

The church youth, ranging from age 4 to 18, began the puppet ministry last year to bring the Gospel to others.

“The kids are not only bringing God’s word to life for others, but they are also learning more themselves,” Robin McLeod, puppet ministry coordinator said. “They learn all kind of details about the Bible when they practice.”

The puppet ministry was founded in March 2011 and since then, the group has performed four different shows for local nursing homes, neighborhoods and church groups.

Their repertoire includes a Fourth of July show, a Christmas show, an Easter show and the Life of Moses.

Until July, they will be performing the Life of Moses in local areas.

Pastor Lanny Brisendine said he is proud of the children and the hard work they have put into the ministry.

“This is truly a children’s ministry for other children,” he said. “This church, these children and these puppets -- if they listen to the Lord and we go to the places the Lord wants us to take this ministry, the Lord will bless this ministry and we’ll see it grow.”

Brisendine said the puppet ministry has been a blessing to the children as well as the church.

“These children are the future to God’s ministry in this area,” he said. “Our church leaders have done an outstanding job with this.”

According to McLeod, the church plans to become an active participant in upcoming local festivals and parades with the new puppets.
