This home on Copeland Circle was declared a total loss by the Camden Fire Department after it responded for a second time to a fire call at the residence.

The Camden Fire Department (CFD) was twice called to a home on Copeland Circle just outside the city limits Monday morning. The home was deemed a total loss by the time the second battle was over.

“It started in a laundry room near the water heater,” said CFD Assistant Chief Phil Elliott. “It was contained to that room and one next to it. We haven’t determined a cause, but it doesn’t appear to be anything suspicious.”

Elliott said Engines 1 and 2 responded to Copeland Circle around 12:41 a.m. Monday and thought they had knocked the fire out about two hours later. The fire rekindled around 6:30 a.m., he said.

“It was fully involved when we arrived,” Elliott said.

He said crews from Engines 1 and 2 fought the second blaze for three hours until about 9:30 a.m. Monday.

“Nobody was hurt,” said Elliott. “Everybody had gotten out of the house during the first call and didn’t return.”
