Using a five-run top of the sixth, Kershaw County Northern rallied from a 3-2 deficit and pulled out a 7-4 win over Lamar in Wednesday night’s winners’ bracket game in the Sub-District A Dixie Youth baseball tournament at Camden’s Woodward Park.
By virtue of the win in a game in which the Northern entry jumped to a 2-0 lead after the first half inning of play, KC Northern entered Thursday play as the lone unbeaten squad in the six-team tourney. They met with Bishopville on Thursday in a rematch of Monday’s first round pairing between the two sides won by KC Northern, 1-0, in an 11-inning, three-hour contest.
Bishopville staved off elimination by knocking KC National out of the tournament with a 6-4 victory on Tuesday.
Lamar fell into a Thursday elimination game with KC West, which had a Wednesday night bye after being shut out by KC Northern, 8-0, on Tuesday night. Lamar defeated KC East, 6-4, on Monday and had a Tuesday night bye. The loss ended KC East’s run in the post-season.
Tonight’s schedule: The championship game of the Sub-District A tourney is slated for tonight at 6 p.m. at Woodward Park.
Should KC Northern have won its rematch with Bishopville on Thursday, it will play the winner  of the KC West versus Lamar game. Should Bishopville stave off elimination and defeat KC Northern, it will mean three teams all have one loss. So, with KC Northern not having had a day off in the tourney’s first four days, it would get a bye into the title game which is scheduled for an 8:30 p.m. start tonight.
The champion and runner-up advance to the district tourney in Pageland beginning Monday, July. 9
Dixie Boys and Dixie Majors open tourney action: The KC Dixie Majors will open District 6 tourney action this afternoon in Gilbert when the locals take on Irmo in a 4:30 p.m. start in the double-elimination event.
Should KC win its opener, the Majors would play the winner of the Lexington vs. Gaston game at 7 p.m. Saturday. The losers of those first round pairings will play an elimination game Saturday at 4:30 p.m.
A pair of KC teams will head to Richburg on Saturday to begin play in the Dixie Boys district tournament.
KC National kicks off the tourney when it takes on Lancaster at 11 a.m. Saturday in the first game of the nine-team, double-elimination event. KC American faces Jefferson at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Should KC National beat Lancaster, it will earn a bye into Monday’s third round. A loss would put KC into Sunday’s 1:30 p.m. elimination game against the loser of the Jefferson KC American contest. Should KC American defeat Jefferson, it would play York on Sunday at 11 a.m.
