Former Olympian Johnson to be guest at CHS hoops camp

Shannon Johnson, a member of the gold medal-winning USA women’s basketball team at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, will be the guest speaker at next Tuesday’s session of the Runnin' Dogs Basketball Camp at Camden High School.
A former teammate of Camden High girl’s head coach Natalie Jeffcoat at the University of South Carolina, Johnson was a five-time WNBA All-Star before retiring in 2009. The Hartsville native had her jersey retired by USC following her career as a Gamecock.
Next week’s camp is open to boys and girls ages 5-14 and runs from Monday, July 9 through Friday, July 13 from 9 a.m. until noon. The cost is $60 per camper.
To pre-register for the camp, please contact the Kershaw County Recreation Department at 425-6009.
Also next week, PGA professional Matt McCarley will hold a junior (ages 7-17) golf camp at the Camden Country Club from Monday through Thursday from 8 a.m. until 10 a.m. The cost is $60.
There will also be a boys basketball camp at Lugoff-Elgin High School next Monday through Thursday from 8:30 a.m. through 12:30 p.m.
The camp, which will be directed by Demons’ head basketball coach Derek Belton, who will have members of his staff and players assisting him, is open to boys ages six through 13. The cost is $60, which includes a camp T-shirt.
