Boan promotoed to lieutenant colonel

Maj. (P) Jimmy W. Boan, son of Wayne and Ann Boan of Bethune, was recently promoted to the rank of lieutenant colonel within the Georgia Army National Guard. A promotion ceremony took place May 24 at Clay National Guard Center in Marietta, Ga.

Boan, currently serving as the Georgia Army National Guard’s JFHQ-G6 information branch chief, earned a bachelor of science degree in Biology from Wofford University. He is currently enrolled at Webster University where he is expected to graduate this fall with a M.A. in information management technology. Boan was commissioned in July 1994 as a second lieutenant after attending ROTC. Prior to his present assignment, he served as the brigade signal officer of the 560th Battle Field Surveillance Brigade.

Among his decorations are the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster), Armey Commendation Medal (with two Oak Leaf Clusters), Army Achievement Medal (with Oak Leaf Cluster), Army Reserve Components Achievement Medal (with two Oak Leaf Clusters), Armed Forces Reserve Medal (with “M” device), National Defense Service Medal (with bronze service star), Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, and the Air Assault Badge.

Prior to Boan’s assignment to the Georgia Army National Guard, he served as commander of Battery A, 3rd Battalion, 178th Field Artillery in Jefferson with the South Carolina Army National Guard. Also with South Carolina’s 3rd Battalion, 179th Field Artillery, Boan served as HHS Fire Direction Officer in Lancaster, Operations Officer for batteries A and B, and held various platoon leader positions.

Boan is also the brother of Cindy Boan (David) Caulder of Camden and uncle of Brandon and Abbygail Caulder of Camden.

He currently lives in Woodstock, Ga., with his wife, Micki, and their three children, Coleman, Gabe and Luke.
