In an effort to encourage Kershaw County residents to shop locally this holiday season, the Kershaw County Chamber of Commerce will sponsor a shopping campaign called “Home for the Holidays.”

Between Nov. 15 and Dec. 15, the chamber urges Kershaw County residents to shop locally and bring receipts, totaling $10 or more, to the chamber, located at 607 S. Broad St. in Camden. Residents will be asked to place their contact information on the back of those receipts.

On Dec. 16, the chamber will hold a drawing from those receipts and several winners will receive gift certificates or merchandise donated by local Kershaw County merchants. Prizes include but are not limited to certificates for services, retail gift cards, restaurant gift certificates and holiday floral arrangements.

Chamber CEO Liz Horton said she wants to make sure the public is aware that all purchases over $10 dollars qualify for the drawing.

“It doesn’t matter whether you fill up your gas tank, purchase groceries at one of our local grocers, purchase a gift, have lunch or dinner at a local restaurant or have maintenance done on your car,” she explained. “As long as the purchase is made at a business located in Kershaw County and the total spent is at least $10 dollars, you are eligible to win.”

There is no limit to the number of receipts a person may enter.

“There are some fabulous prizes to make your holiday season brighter,” Horton added.

Of the reasoning behind the contest, Horton said, “Our local merchants also offer a variety of gift ideas to satisfy your holiday shopping needs. Why make an expensive trip out of town to purchase your holiday gifts which could result in inconvenient and even more expensive returns later on, when our local merchants offer a variety of affordable gift ideas to satisfy your shopping needs?”

For more information on the contest or to become a member, contact the chamber at 432-2525.
