The 2012 CLASS (Camden Lugoff Area Shag Society) Shag Blast was held June 9 at the Camden Shrine Club. The annual event is the club’s major fundraiser, and this year’s was a night of “great food, great music and great fellowship,” according to CLASS Shag Blast Chairman Ray Amyette. With the support of sponsors, club members and others, CLASS donated $3,400 -- $1,700 each – to the Community Medical Clinic of Kershaw County and Food for the Soul of Kershaw County. On hand for the presentation were (from left) Deb McAbee, Patsy Bryant, Keith Williamson, Steve Van Horn, Amyette, Marvin Padgett, Fred Ogburn, Terry McCoy and Linda Rodgers.

Open dancing at the Shag Blast started at 6 p.m., Amyette said, and continued until midnight. “Thanks to our kind sponsors and the hard work of our club members,” said Amyette. “We should be proud of what we accomplished with the economy the way it is today. These sponsors are key to making our CLASS Shag Blast a success.

“Thanks, too, to our seven CLASS DJs who provided great shag music, and special thanks to Robert and Janice Caulder for the set-up and use of their DJ equipment,” Amyette continued. “Kathy McCoy and Patsy Bryant coordinated the food and decorations. They did an outstanding job as always. No one went home hungry, and the place looked great. I also want to give special thanks to all of our Shag Blast Committee members. Without them, the CLASS Shag Blast wouldn’t be possible.” Next year’s Shag Blast is scheduled for June 8, 2013.
