True treasure

I read with great interest the recent article about local resident and collector Ross Beard and the personal gift to him of information belonging to the late David “Carbine” Williams. I want to share with the readers what other treasures exist thanks to Mr. Beard. My son and I have been fortunate enough to have seen the “tip of the iceberg” of the personal collection belonging to Mr.Beard.

Ross is truly a walking, breathing archive of military history and his collection of memorabilia is vast. I urge anyone having any interest in military or firearms history to visit the S.C. Military Museum located at the National Guard Armory on Bluff Road in Columbia. Although the displayed collection is huge, it represents only a small portion of Ross’ collection. As space becomes available at the Armory, the display will continue to grow. The collection of items there is absolutely second to none! There is, literally, nowhere else on the planet where some of the more rare artifacts and collectibles that are on display there can be seen. Ross is a wonderful tour guide and chances are, if you go on a Saturday morning, you are very likely to get a personal tour that will amaze you!
