Mary Ruth Geddings Black, 85, widow of Clyde Joseph Black, Jr., died Monday, August 6, 2012 at the Palmetto Health Richland Hospital in Columbia.

Born in Anderson, SC, she was a daughter of the late Graham Leroy Geddings and Thelma Lorraine McLeod Geddings.

Mrs. Black was a member of First Baptist Church in Bishopville.

Surviving is a son, Clyde J. "Joe" Black, III and wife Irene of McAllen, TX; two daughters, Patti Weaver and husband Danny of Hartsville and Sharon Stokes of Lake Wateree; a sister, Jo Young of Lake Wateree; a brother, Billy Ray Geddings of Dalzell; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a special little friend, Patti’s dog, Stevie.

She was preceded in death by her siblings, Mildred Whitworth, Graham Leroy Geddings, Jack Geddings, Nell Armstrong and Sara Ann Bosman.

Funeral services will be held at 3 P.M. Wednesday in the Chapel of the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Hendricks officiating.

Burial will be in the Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 2 to 3 P.M. Wednesday at the Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Palmetto Health Richland Hospice, P. O. Box 100199, Dept. 274, Columbia, SC 29202 or to a charity of one’s choice.
