In mid-June, Kershaw County Sheriff’s Office (KCSO) investigators arrested 36-year-old Michael Browning for allegedly sexually abusing his own daughters. Browning pled guilty Wednesday and will spend the next 25 years in prison.

According to a press release issued by 5th Circuit Solicitor Dan Johnson’s office, Browning pled guilty to first degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor and was then sentenced by Circuit Court Judge L. Casey Manning. Johnson said Browning’s abuse of his daughters began in 2007 and continued until May of this year.

When the KCSO arrested Browning, investigators said one of his daughters was between 7 and 9 years of age, the other between the ages of 8 and 14 when the abuse took place. They also arrested his wife, Kelly Marie Browning, 33, because she knew of the abuse and did nothing about it. They charged her with two counts of unlawful neglect of a child.

The children revealed the abuse when deputies responded to a domestic disturbance at the Browning home. According to a KCSO press release at the time, one of the girls disclosed that her father was touching her inappropriately and forcing her into sexual acts with him. Forensic interviews of the girls confirmed the abuse. In addition, one of the victims said they told their mother of the abuse between six and seven years ago, but that her mother did nothing.

In Friday’s press release, Johnson further revealed that Kelly Browning confronted her husband, who confessed. He said Michael Browning entered Three Rivers Behavioral Health, but that his wife never reported him to law enforcement. Johnson also said that when Michael Browning returned home, the abuse continued up until deputies responded to the domestic disturbance call.

According to online court records, Kelly Browning is out of jail on $15,000 bond.
