Man apologizes for being in home without permission

An Elgin man and his girlfriend came home to find a man sleeping on their couch. The victim said the man ate about $20 worth of food from their home and left the kitchen “a mess.”

When the man woke up, he told the couple that “he messed up bad” and then apologized. The victim then drove the suspect, someone he was acquainted with, back to his truck in a nearby neighborhood.

The man said the victim’s roommate gave him permission to be in the home, but the roommate denied ever talking to the suspect.

The KCSO reported the following other incidents during the period of Aug. 27-Sept. 3:

A Lugoff woman went to get a late night snack from the refrigerator she keeps under her carport to find drinks, meat and peaches missing. The victim said this was the third time someone has stolen items from her refrigerator.

An Elgin man received calls from “Bryan,” who claimed to worked for a cash advance company. “Bryan” told the man that he owed $350.  The suspect told the Elgin man that if he did not pay, he would send the police to the man’s job to collect the money.  

A black male wearing a blue wind-suit, dark pants or jeans, a long dark, straight wig and grey work gloves robbed a gas station attendee at gunpoint. The man took less than $50.

A now 17-year-old girl said a man she identified as both a preacher and registered sex offender got her pregnant when she was 15 and is the father of her child.

A Kershaw County School District high school student was arrested after an assistant principal searched his book bag and seized a 5-inch steak knife.

A man was robbed and beaten by an acquaintance after he was falsely enticed to come to meet the man a hotel room to “drink beers.”

Someone stole a two TVs, a video game console and several Gamecock pictures from a home on Newcastle Lane, Camden.

A Camden man was hit with a hammer after he gave a man by the name of “Shorty” a ride to Gary Road, Camden.

Someone took the passenger side wheel off a car temporarily stopped on U.S. 1 and rolled it into a ditch.

Someone stole $900 worth of yard tools from a home on Charlotte Thompson School Road, Camden.

Someone stole two air conditioning units from a home on Old Stage Coach Road, Camden.

Two Camden women attempted to steal $40 worth of goods from a Camden retail store.

Someone stripped a home on Youngs Bridge Road, Bethune, of all its electrical wiring.

Someone stole an air conditioning unit from a home on Cantey Hill Road, Cassatt.

Someone stole $900 in antique chairs from a home on Flat Rock Road, Camden.

Someone stole a 5 hp motor from a boat on Buck Hill Landing Road, Ridgeway.

Someone stole a tag from a car parked on St. Matthews Road, Camden.

Someone tried to cash a forged $300 check at a Camden grocery store.

Someone stole a shotgun from a home on Baughman Road, Lugoff.

Someone stole three guns from a home on Blaney Road, Elgin.

Someone stole rims from a car on Arrowwood Road, Camden.

County deputies also assisted other agencies, served bench warrants and dealt with 15 simple assaults; 14 simple marijuana; eight public disorderly conduct and burglary; seven intimidation; six harassments; four deaths driving under suspension and intimidation; three incorrigibles, DUI and criminal domestic violence; two breach of trust, reckless driving, resisting arrest, motor vehicle thefts, criminal sexual conduct with a minor and weapons law violations; and one forcible fondling, obtaining goods under false pretenses, prowler, open container and stalking.


A Camden man attempted to hit a Camden grocery store manager in the groin while trying to leave the store after he was seen stuffing more than $50 worth of meat down his pants.

While on route to the Kershaw County Detention Center, the Camden also man vandalized the patrol car.

A Camden Police Department (CPD) report indicated the man attempted to steal four packages of ribeye steaks.

The CPD reported the following other incidents during the period of Aug. 27 –Sept. 3:

A Bethune man allegedly threatened to kill a Kershaw man’s family after he punched the man in a Camden hotel room. The suspect was, allegedly, “going out” with the Kershaw man’s wife while he spent time in jail. The suspect is said to have visited the Kershaw man to make things right between them, but an argument ensued.

Someone broke the driver’s side mirror of a vehicle parked on York Street. Someone also scratched the vehicle all the way down the passenger side.

A Camden woman and a juvenile tried to steal $40 worth a clothing items and food from a Camden retail store.

Someone stole a purse from the locker room of a Camden gym. The locker was not locked.

Someone slashed the tires of a vehicle parked on Monroe Street, Camden.

Camden officers also assisted other agencies, served bench warrants and dealt with one trespassing, drunkenness, DUI and harassment,
