As a coach, you want your team to be consistent, if nothing else.
For that reason, among others, you will not hear too much complaining out of Lugoff-Elgin Middle School head football coach Randy Stokes.
Last Thursday, the Leopards improved to 2-0 on the young season with a 32-8 win over Mid-Carolina. That came after Stokes and company opened their season with a 32-6 thumping of Lee Central.
On Wednesday at Lugoff-Elgin Stadium, the Leopards will host rival Stover Middle School for middle school football bragging rights in the West Wateree region of Kershaw County. Kickoff for the game is set for 6 p.m.
After opening the season with a loss to Chester, Stover bounced back to upend Camden Middle School (0-2), 28-20 on Wednesday night.
As for his Leopards, Stokes said he likes what he has seen from his squad in the early going.
“Our kids are working hard and they are improving every week,” Stokes said. “We are looking forward to playing a very good Stover team on Wednesday night. We hope to have a large crowd come out to support two Lugoff-Elgin area football teams.”
The Leopards script for success has been a healthy combination of the passing game and the running game, both of which have led to L-EMS finding their way into the end zone.
“Our defense is also playing very well,” Stokes said. “And, our offensive guys are rally learning. We have three seventh-graders starting on our offensive line.
“We still have a long way to go as a team, but we are headed in the right direction.”
